Finding Your Voice & Owning Your Value

Did you know March is Women's History month?!

It is a great time to reflect, and review some facts about where women stand in the workforce today.

Facts:

·       Women-owned businesses has skyrocketed from 4.6% in 1971 to 42% in 2019.

·       The number of women running Fortune 500 companies has hit an all-time record. Currently ~40 women are CEO’s of these companies.

·       Studies have shown that when women are included in the leadership team there is:

·       Less burnout amongst the company

·       More diversity inside the company

·       More likely to close the gender pay gap

·       And, overall, more intentional strategies about how to reach company objectives and goals

All of this is A-MAZING, right?!

I am so proud to be a women in today’s workplace, the opportunities are endless.

However, despite these glowing statistics and significant opportunities, I still have women (educated, powerful, brilliant, and ambitious women!) reaching out to me every single day asking:

·       How do I stand out in a competitive marketplace?

·       How do I balance my personal life + continue to grow & thrive in my career?

·       “I have a dream to scale my business, personal brand, or consulting company but ____________.”

·       I don’t have an MBA.

·       I don’t have what it takes to be an entrepreneur.

·       I hate talking about myself.

·       I hate the sales process.

·       I hate marketing myself, how do I even do that?!

·       I suck at public speaking

·       I don't know what I want, I just know I want something else, something more.

·       ***The list could really go on and on….

So, despite women gaining a seat at the table (or creating their own table), there is plenty more work for us to support women in the workplace.

Women need a ROADMAP on how to thrive in our careers + be the influential voice we want to be.

Here are my 5 tips on how to CREATE your career by design.

  1. Clarify Your Vision & Success Targets – Warning: This step takes the longest part!!! Majority of people give up here because building clarity takes ACTION, and a lot of people are stuck in perfectionism & analysis by paralysis. Don’t let this be you! Get to work on taking measurable action towards achieving your step-by-step success targets. Think big, Act Small. Work on one step at a time, & evolve as you go.

  2. Commit to a Strategy & Build in Accountability – No more winging it! The marketplace is too competitive + without a strategy, how will you know what to do next? Investing in yourself & building accountability with working towards your goal is critical when you are leveling up.

  3. Curate Your Collateral & Network – Your network = your net worth. Your referral partners and community will be the ones who sell your personal brand for you – you don’t even need to do the leg work! Make sure you curate a cohesive & well known presence, especially online these days, that represents who you are, what you are an expert in, and what problems you solve.

  4. Master the Art of the Humble Brag – Get comfortable & REALLY confident talking about why you are the go-to expert, why you are the best at solving this problem, & why someone should trust YOU. Communicating your value is so critical when you are trying to articulate your message!

  5. Living Inside Your Zone of Genius Everyday – Creating boundaries is a form a self-care, and when you are working relentlessly towards your vision and your definition of success, you need to crystalize what you are willing to say yes and no to. “No” is your new BFF. Invest in support, build a community of people who want to support you, and, most importantly, HAVE FUN!

These five steps are your secret sauce to building clarity and standing out as the go-to expert in your niche.

What is something you do to stay focused and achieve the success that you desire?

p.s. Opportunity + A little bit of Luck + Strategy = Success.

Always with you!

Ashlee
